WhenI went through a list of traits associated with the apollonianpersonality during the beginning of the course, I took time toexamine myself in relation to the apollonian traits. I realized thatI have some of the traits associated with apollonian personality. Tostart with, I have fond for cleanliness. I always make sure that mycloths and room are clean and well arranged. The second trait istimeliness and ability to follow schedule strictly. I make sure thatI submit my school work on time and I always plan ahead for mypersonal budget. However, I realized that I needed to do more work onself-image. In addition to the apollonian traits, four criticalthinking skills, namely, clarity, accuracy and consistency, amongothers, play an important role in enabling members of the nursingprofession to provide quality and efficient services (Paul &ampElder, 2001).

Clarity

Clarityor the ability to think clearly and express thoughts in a way thatthey are easily and efficiently comprehended by others is one of themost essential skills that are applied in all departments in thenursing profession. Clarity refers to placing ideas and facts into acoherent and logical framework, while paying attention to thespecific meanings of the words used (White, 2004). Take, forinstance, a situation where a health profession tells a patient totake one tablet of a particular drug in the morning and anothertablet in the evening. The terms “morning” and “evening” maybe understood differently by different individuals, depending onpersonal background. When advised to take a dose for a particulardrug in the evening, one person may take it in the afternoon and theother one at night. In the same vein, one person may take theprescribed morning dosage at 5.00 am and another take it at 11.00 am.In cases where there is need to stick to strict schedule, this maylead to problems. A patient may end up taking the morning dosage at11.00 am and the evening dosage at 2.00 pm. For the purpose ofclarity, health professions are required to state clear timeframeswhen dealing with patients, family member, friends and other healthprofessionals (White, 2004).

Accuracy

Accuracywhen providing services is a key requirement in the overallhealthcare profession. Accuracy refers to being true and correct andadherence to the proper parameters (Paul &amp Elder, 2001). Accuracyis a requirement in all instances when dealing with a patient. When apatient is admitted to a hospital, for instance, data about his orher illness must be collected and interpreted accurately. Theappropriate instruments must be used to measure the health conditionof the patient. In addition, the required procedures for measuring,reporting and documenting the health condition of a patient must befollowed strictly (White, 2004). The required treatment must bedetermined with accuracy. In addition, there must be accuratecalculation of the right drug dosage and prescription. With regard toreporting and documentation, accuracy must also be met. If a nurse,for instance, reports that patient has “hypertension” to meanthat he or she is very active and anxious, the standard of accuracyin communication is not met. The right words must be used in alsituations (White, 2004).

Consistency

Consistencyis another concept of critical thinking that is applied in allpatient care situations. As White (2004) explains, consistency refersto the appropriate use of concepts and principles. During treatmentin the healthcare situations, the health care professionals in chargemust ensure that they use indicators to make decisions on the rightnursing diagnoses that should be administered. In other words, anursing diagnosis that is based on particular indicators should onlybe administered when those indicators are present. During thetreatment of cervical cancer, for instance, the pelvic lymph nodesmay be removed in case there are indicators to show that the lymphvessels have been invaded by the cancer. However, it would be wrongto remove the pelvic lymph nodes if there are no indicators to showthat the lymph vessels have been affected (Dunleavey, 2008).Consistency in the nursing profession ensures that the righttreatment is always administered to patients (White, 2004).

Conclusion

Inconclusion, my study of the apollonian traits at the beginning of thecourse enabled me to understand my individuality and the traits thatI have that make me distinct from other people around me. Myunderstanding of apollonian self has improved further after studyingthe critical thinking concepts. Although there are many more criticalthinking concepts, I have concentrated on clarity, accuracy andconsistency, all of which are applied in the health profession.Although I have studied critical thinking concepts as an academicexercise, I have realized that the concepts play a greater role thanjust understanding them. To start with, I have learned the importanceof thinking logically. I have learned the importance of determiningthe purpose of any project I undertake and examining the benefits anddetriments and weighing alternatives. After examining myself, I havefound that I unconsciously apply logical thinking in everything thatI do. After understanding the critical thinking concepts, I havegained more interaction skills my self image has improved and myability to present myself before friends, clients and other peoplehas improved. As well, I have become a more compassionateprofessional. My ability to provide quality and efficient services toclients has improved.
