Personalleadership philosophy

“Leadershipis the art of leading others to deliberately create a result thatwould not have happened otherwise” (Sadler 8). My belief is thatfor this type of leadership to prevail, a leader must be led by adistinctive approach towards work, one that is led by his or herpersonal beliefs as opposed to their individual characteristics. Myvision as a leader is based on the need to enlighten other people andinspire them o be the best at what they do. In this way, I will alsobe bridging a way for my followers to cross to the leadershipplatform by instilling leadership values based on excellence. Ibelieve that every individual regardless of their position in theorganizational hierarchy has the capability to perform to theexpected levels and as such, motivating them through my leadershipskills will be an important way of developing them into leaders ofthe near and unforeseeable future.

Asa leader, I am expected to make important decisions on differentsituations. To achieve the desired results in my environment ofoperation, I will incorporate the thoughts and opinions of others inmy decision making process as well as ensuring that the decisionsalign with the operational objectives. This process will take shapein setting of goals, improvement of the operating environment, andinstitution of changes within the environment of work. One thing Iwill always consider is that I am not alone in the work environmentand as such, I must recognize the contributions of other peoplewithin the same setting and put into use their input, which may be inform of advice, ideas, and corrections. In making decisions, I willapply simplifications based on the prevailing circumstances and makemy decisions in such a way that they can be flexed in case asituation changes.

Myphilosophy as a leader is that before one declares himself or herselfas a leader, they must serve those they seek to lead. In this way, Iwill be able to understand the limits of my aspirations in wanting tobecome a leader, and I will not be swayed away from my objectives bythe hunger for power. In my journey as a leader, I always envision aprocess where I serve first in order to be a leading example forthose whom I lead. By being a servant leader, I have the opportunityto serve the needs of other people first as well as aiding them growin their individual capacities as opposed to using my position ofpower to unfairly develop myself. In addition, I am always ready toshare my leadership responsibilities with those who warrant them inorder to improve on efficiency and team spirit.

Allplaces of work or engagement require ethical participation of all keypersonnel (Sadler 18). As a leader in one of these settings, mypersonal integrity and honesty will be important in my dailyresponsibilities and to the people I will be leading. These virtueswill the foundation of my leadership process, which will also beguided by fairness and respect. By upholding ethical conduct, I willbe acting as a role model for my followers and in the processestablish a setting that is guided by and follows ethics. Tostrengthen my position as an ethical leader, I will give my supportto my team members and guide them in places of need in addition tomaking ethical and sound decisions that cater for the needs ofeverybody within the engagement setting. I thus envision a leadershiprole as an opportunity to develop others as well developing myselfthrough committed service.

Ibelieve that a leader must be trusted within the settings in he orshe operates in. In my journey as a leader, I envision a processthrough which I will be able to inspire trust in those I will beleading by making them believe in my capabilities, competencies,commitment, and integrity in my leadership role. Although I do notexpect to earn that trust overnight, my clarity in my mission,decisions and expectations will inspire trust over time. Consistencyand compassion will also be part of my practices in ensuring that myteam members have trust in me. By inspiring trust in my team members,I will be laying a foundation for the formation of a strong team thatwill share my vision and react o my motivation and positive attitude.I also intend to adopt excellent communication skills to challenge,motivate, encourage, and inspire them in addition to listening totheir problems and contributions.

Asa leader, I expect to be an empowering figure to all that will belooking upon me for guidance and leadership. I recognize the need tobe humble which will serve as my first step towards empowering otherpeople within my workplace. It is important that I also express agenuine concern for the lives of the people who will be under myleadership in addition to being the pacesetter for my team to enablethem effectively attain their potential. To achieve the level ofempowerment that I desire, I will have to communicate how everythingand everybody within my environment of work relates and mapping outthe responsibility of each team member and the resources that willaid them in discharging those responsibilities. This will allow theteam to be self-controlling, whereby my role as a leader will bechallenging and facilitating the smooth running of their activitiesand in the process empowering them.

Agreat leader is judged by how well he or she resolves any conflictswithin the workplace (Sadler 67). This requires a set of skills,which I intend to utilize to resolve any matters that may arise in myleadership jurisdiction. Firstly, I put importance in listening tothe conflicting parties before passing and judgment or decision inorder to understand the scope of the conflict and from there I cancome up with plausible solutions. After listening to them, it isimportant to gather the conflicting parties with the aim ofdiscussing the issue causing the conflict. In resolving the matter,both parties will accorded equal chances to express their side of thestory and I as the leader, must act impartially to ensure that thesolution decided on favors all parties and effectively deals with theconflict. It will also be important to deal with such cases as theyarise, without postponing them to ensure that the situations do notescalate or move into other divisions of the work setting.

Inan organization, a leader should know what, why, how and when achange occurs (Sadler 48). As a leader, I will ensure that any changeincorporated in the work setting conforms to the culture, mission,and vision of the organization to ensure that the changes strengthenthe organization rather than weakening it. In addition, I will beeager to introduce change through a perpetual renewal process thatputs into focus the commitment of the staff and leaders toorganizational excellence. I also intend to effectively communicateany planned changes to the necessary teams and people to prepare thempsychologically for the changes. In enacting changes, I will look tointroduce new ideas that will benefit the team under my leadership aswell as the organization I will be based in. as such, it will beimportant to source for the input and contribution of allstakeholders within the work environment as opposed to making it apersonal process.

Aleader is supposed to set goals for the team him or her leads, whichwill guide the team towards the achievement of certain set targets(Sadler 79). As a leader of a team, I will seek the participation ofevery team member to brainstorm and come up with achievable goals. Iwill then choose and prioritize each goal as well as setting theobjectives for each goal. In addition, I will have an action plan forevery goal and set a system that will aid in the evaluation andreformulation of the goals if necessary. I will also ensure that eachgoal reflects the culture of the work environment as well as being inline with its mission. As such, each goal formulated must align withthe capabilities of the team responsible for achieving them.

Timemanagement defines a capable leader and as such, I intend to displayexcellent time management skills in my role as a leader. As a leader,I intend to have a pre-planned for all my schedules to ensure thatthere is harmony and flow in the execution of my responsibilities. Byhaving a personal time management plan, I will also motivate the teamunder my leadership to be efficient time managers. Prioritization andorganization of task will also work towards enhancing my timemanagement therefore, I will put emphasis on making realistic timeallocations and estimates for all my tasks and those of the team. Iwill also delegate tasks to other members of the team as well asestablishing procedures and standards of operation within the teamsetting to ensure that time is maximally exploited for the gain ofthe work setting.

Situationalleadership is a key component of the responsibility of a leader. As aleader, I am expected to adapt to situational changes within the workenvironment rather than wait for the other team members to adapt tochanges in my leadership style. Additionally, I intend to develop anduse my situational judgment skills to detect situations in teammembers and analyze them. As I result, I will be able to flex myleadership skills to suit different situations. I will also tell theteam on the course of action to adopt as well as communicate my mainideas as a way of selling my message to them. To ensure that the teamworks as a unit, I must participate in the activities of the team andshare the responsibilities that come with decision-making. To followup on the participation, I will also delegate some of myresponsibilities to the other members of the team in addition tomonitoring their progress in the delegated responsibilities.
