The topic of research regarding summer learning loss is a vital topic, which has a huge impact on the learning process. The research on the topic derives directly from the problem of learning loss. The loss in the educational skills and knowledge forms the basis of the research. It is evident that the various measures, which have been adopted to curb learning loss during the summer have yielded little fruits, if not none. Students have continued to indicate reduced educational skills and knowledge after resuming school from summer vacations (Child, 2011). It is this problem that necessitates the research that seeks to devise a solution or method to reduce summer learning loss. The solutions offered are a subject of discussion in regard to their effectiveness. The summer packets and summer learning programs, which have yielded little fruits, are the subjects in question in the research (Liamputtong, 2009).It is clear that the research derives or originates from this problem of summer learning loss. Qualitative research is appropriate for addressing summer learning loss since it involves a systematic study of students`s lives, in addition to their reactions and performance after summer vacation (Tracy, 2013).

The question, which the research study seeks to answer, is paramount in this research and relates directly to the research. I find it necessary to note that the question touches directly on the topic and the problem at hand. I agree with the argument that the researcher must answer the question posed in order to find a solution to the problem of summer learning loss. Therefore, we can comfortably conclude that the research originates partly from the question. Any study to be conducted has to be guided by the research questions, which the researcher wishes to answer (Gravetter &amp Forzano, 2009).

It is paramount to note that for any research to be effective, proper research design must be adopted. For the purpose of this research, in depth interviews were adopted. This research design was adopted because it seeks to answer the question “how” and “what.&quot In this regard, the research design was considered effective since it would answer the research question which asked on the impact of the summer packets and programs was on summer learning loss. The design also seeks to analyze in depth, the causes of various human behavior. The research design also makes use of small, but effective samples to gather information and to draw conclusions (Jost et al, 2008).

The choice of interviews was solely based on the fact that it seeks to answer the question posed by the research. The question is a “what” question, which this research design endeavors to answer. The research design is also applicable in this research since it utilizes samples. It is evident that this type of research requires sampling, in order to draw conclusions. For instance, summer learning loss may be determined in a few sample schools, and the results replicated in other schools. Interviews are effective over other research methods since they enable the collection of numerous data and keen analysis, which helps to bring out the exact true results. Interviews are also analytical and take into account the aspect of complexity and context. This is unlike other research designs, which are shallow in the collection of data (Windzio, 2013).
